Avatara | ter Hürne
ter Hürne is one of Europe's leading parquet and flooring manufacturers, based in the town Südlohn in Münsteterland, Germany. ter Hürne produces quality products "Made in Germany" and employs around 300 people. As a wood specialist ter Hürne develops and produces innovative flooring solutions from a variety of materials with the mission to offer the leading flooring range for healthy living.
Consumers want to be able to consume with a clear conscience. Sound sustainability is important for this.
But even more important to the consumer today is that the products in his home create a healthy living environment for himself and his family. Avatara is the new generation of healthy design floors.
Avatara is made of the material Talcusan, which consists of chalk and silicates and approx. 30% polypropylene. Polypropylene is used for food packaging and also for baby toys as the plastic polymer PP does not migrate into food and is also absolutely saliva-proof.
Avatara is one hundred percent free of PVC, chlorine, plasticisers and solvents. Unlike design floors made of vinyl Avatara is therefore virtually emission-free and does not pollute the indoor air. This is why Avatara has also been awarded the eco-seal by the eco-Institut, Cologne, the specialist for product emissions and indoor air quality, an award that is not possible for conventional vinyl design floors.
In addition Avatara is also highly innovative in other features. Avatara designs are digitally printed and are therefore repeat-free in design. As a consequence the full beauty of nature's design ideas can be used (prominent knots and cracks for example). This is not possible for floor designs based on rotary printing that have a high level of repetition in the design (usually only 2 sqm without repetition).
This significantly limits the natural features that can be used for wood and natural stone designs. Avatara is also twice as scratch resistant as avarage design vinyl floors and therefore more durable than conventional design floors.
The Characteristics
The key ingredient is Talcusan granulate consisting of chalk and silicates as well as ca. 30% polypropylen. We reprocess the offcuts produced during production into granulate and feed it back into production. This creates a cycle that significantly reduces waste and energy consumption in production.
Avatara is also 100% recyclable.
Avatara consists of 30% polypropylene. Today 67% of the polymer is already post consumer recycled polypropylene. The polymer polyproyplene (PP) is very suitable for recycling. It can either be directly remelted into new products or processed as recyclate for reuse. The recyclability of PP is constantly developed further, making it one of the most efficient post-consumer plastics.
Using near-infrared technology the different types of plastic can be separated in the sorting plants achieving a grade purity of 98 %. This allows the use for new high quality products. Avatara is made in Germany which allows using post comsumer recylates from the German Duales System Hence a former yoghurt cup is turned into a healthy, durable and high-quality design floor.
In addition the floor is certified for a very good recyclability (Plastship certification -a network for recycled plastics and plastics recycling).
The core of Avatara is made of the innovative material Talcusan®. ter Hürne chooses this new material because it complies with the company's principle to produce floors for a healthy living environment Talcusan® consists mainly of silicates, chalk and the addition of the ecologically harmless material polypropylene (even used in the manufacture of baby drinking bottles) - and is therefore free of PVC, plasticisers and other solvents. Through this Avatara Design Floor creates a lasting healthy living environment without polluting the indoor air.
Avatara is ideal for low-emission, healthy building and living. The materials are selected with the utmost care and controlled by renowned institutes. All Avatara design floors are certified with the Blue Angel and the ECO label. Avatara design flooring is Made in Germany.
The intelligent construction on the basis of Talcusan® provides ideal flooring properties. An impact sound insulation is integrated on the back - perfectly matched to the core board - for a soft, quiet and comfortable walking feeling.
The surface is warm to the feet and has a high walking comfort.
Avatara also creates a hygienic feel-good atmosphere with its allergy-friendly and antibacterial properties. In contrast to carpeting, dust and dirt do not find a permanent hold on the closed surface during cleaning and do not provide a habitat for mites.
All waste and rejects in production are recycled and fully reintroduced into the production process. The polymer used in the production of Avatara Designfloors is Polypropylen. 30% of the product recipy is of Polypropylen of which 67% is post comsumer recycled polypropylen provided by the high quality german waste collection provider Duales System Germany.
Polypropylene is an emission-free plastic polymer. When burnt it releases carbon dioxide and water without sooting.
Nevertheless Avatara as a product can of course be returned to the recycling loop.
