Salsa Atoll | Paulig Teppichweberei
The production process is environmental friendly and begins with washing the wool with pure water and chemical-free soap. We use ecologically harmless quality products from Switzerland for dyeing. Our moth protection is also certified to "Oeko-Tex Standard 100" and is characterized by high environmental compatibility. The careful quality selection of renewable raw materials and the careful processing result in a sustainable and fairly produced product that can be placed in any home with a clear conscience.
Another aspect of sustainability is the durability of our rugs. Not only are they extremely hard-wearing, they can also be used on both sides. This doubles their lifespan and our customers can enjoy them for a long time.
With Salsa Atoll, Salsa Bali and Salsa Tonga, we already have ecologically degradable hand-woven rugs in our range. The traditional weaving technique used here ("Basket Weave") consists of both warp and weft made from 100% New Zealand virgin wool.
Paulig's sustainable approach encompasses all areas of the company and has left its mark - a mark we are proud of! Producing the best quality at the highest ecological level requires transparency. To ensure this, we have created a closed value chain, which means that the entire production process - from the first to the last step - is in our hands. We know every production step, every ingredient and can therefore continuously improve processes and products and make them more sustainable.
In order to protect people and nature in equal measure, Paulig is a member of STEP Fairtrade Carpets - an international organization that promotes the sustainable production of handmade carpets. In addition to fair trade, STEP also fights for better living and working conditions on a global level. STEP's most important goals include
The Characteristics
The production process is environmental friendly and begins with washing the wool with pure water and chemical-free soap. We use ecologically harmless quality products from Switzerland for dyeing. Our moth protection is also certified to "Oeko-Tex Standard 100" and is characterized by high environmental compatibility. Our hand-woven rugs made from renewable raw materials are not only decorative, but also useful for naturally regulating the indoor climate. They are made from high-quality virgin wool from New Zealand sheep, which has many great properties, such as storing heat and keeping it in the room. A large proportion of the heat is lost through the floor. There is potential for savings here, which can be exploited with the help of a Paulig wool carpet. This is because the crimped fibers of virgin wool form air cushions that provide natural insulation and store room heat. This ensures a stable room temperature and heating costs can be reduced.
The wool carpet not only has advantages in terms of warmth, but also offers natural regulation of humidity. On rainy days, unpleasant humidity can occur in the room. Our carpets absorb this moisture and release it again if the heated air is too dry.
Another aspect of sustainability is the durability of our rugs. Not only are they extremely hard-wearing, they can also be used on both sides. This doubles their lifespan and our customers can enjoy them for a long time.

Through the demand-oriented production of our individually manufactured rugs, we not only produce unique items instead of mass-produced products, but also prevent the unnecessary waste of precious resources.
Another important milestone is the digital transformation, which we are currently in the middle of. For example, our new ERP system is helping us to optimize our global logistics, integrate resource-saving processes and digitalize as many processes as possible. This not only enables us to increase efficiency and minimize resource consumption. In addition, intelligent production planning enables us to make extremely effective, economical and profitable use of raw materials and supplies.
