STEICOunderfloor and STEICOsilent plus are impact sound insulation products made of natural wood fiber. The wood fiber insulation boards with a thickness of between 3 and 7 mm are laid under prefabricated parquet and laminate floors, where they offer the following advantages:

  • Room sound improvement: Walking noise becomes quieter, deeper and more pleasant. The floor resonates with higher-quality, more soothing sounds.
  • Impact sound insulation: Impact sound is reduced by up to 21dB. An effective insulation measure with a low installation height.

  • Compensation of uneven areas: STEICO impact sound insulation creates a level surface for floor laying. Small uneven spots in the unfinished floor of up to 3 mm are evened out.
  • High compressive strength: Due to the high compressive strength of up to 20t/sqm, STEICO impact sound insulation provides additional protection for floor coverings and prevents the thin click connections from breaking when the joints are stressed. At the same time, STEICO impact sound insulation is so elastic that falling objects are cushioned and no major damage is caused to the surfaces.

  • Durability due to stable fiber structure: Due to the compact fiber cross-linking, STEICO impact sound insulation permanently withstands dynamic and static loads.
  • High variability due to graduated thicknesses: STEICO impact sound insulation is available in 3, 4, 5 and 7 mm thickness. The low installation heights are ideal for renovation projects (no need to shorten doors), and different floor levels from room to room can be compensated for.
  • Suitability for underfloor heating: The thicknesses of 3, 4 and 5 mm can be ideally combined with underfloor heating systems.

The Characteristics

For the production of STEICO impact sound insulation, only wood from sustainable forestry certified according to the strict criteria of PEFC is used. In addition, STEICO impact sound insulation represents a CO2 reservoir.

The CO2 that the tree has taken from the atmosphere during its growth remains bound in the finished product and is thus removed from the atmosphere over the long term.

The renowned and independent Institute for Building Biology in Rosenheim has tested the impact sound insulation STEICOunderfloor for health effects. STEICOunderfloor is classified and recommended as harmless from a building biology point of view.

Among other things, this is a result of the manufacturing process. In the production of wood fiberboards using the so-called wet process, the wood’s own lignin is used to bind the boards. No additional, external adhesives are necessary.

Wood products such as STEICO impact sound insulation are sorptive and thus contribute to balanced humidity in indoor spaces.

The production of STEICO wood fiber insulating materials is committed to sustainable principles. STEICO relies entirely on CO2-neutral biomass for the generation of production heat and steam. In the annual production of STEICO products, more than 2.5 times as much CO2 is bound as is released during production (0.95 million tons of CO2 storage compared to 0.37 million tons of CO2 emissions in production).

Further successes in terms of climate protection can be read in the regularly published STEICO Sustainability Report. Some of the highlights for 2021 include:

Climate-friendly production heat and steam: Use of biomass increased by 31%.

CO2 reduction: Greenhouse gases reduced by 130,000t

CO2 emission per ton of finished product: CO2 intensity reduced by 33%

Raw wood utilization: 100% raw wood utilization, 0% waste

Waste management: 6,514t of resources and 1,053t of greenhouse gases are saved via waste management.
